No Limits
My mind is in a continuous creative loop. I can't seem to land on one creative project. I don't know if it's because I get bored or because I enjoy the challenge of artistic experimentation. What I do know is that I'm always looking for something new to try. It can be a reinvention of a previous attempt or something completely new. It doesn't see to matter to me.
My vintage 1943 Webster's Dictionary says that a kaleidoscope is an optical instrument which, by an arrangement of mirrors, causes objects to appear in symmetrical patterns. Dictionary.com adds that it is a continually changing shifting pattern of shapes, colors and scenes.
I honestly think that my brain is a kaleidoscope. I see patterns in things and pictures in shapes. Colors fascinate me and I rarely care if they clash.
I started painting of these little 3 x 3 inch squares and couldn't stop. I like them as a set though.

I’ve been fascinated with mini paintings ever since I saw an artist’s mini ocean paintings. All her paintings were in ocean and beach tones but yet they each told a different story. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to give this mini art a try but i suppose it's better late than never. Right?
I’m not too good at realistic art. I’m drawn to random color and shape that abstract art offers. So, it was easy for me to go with this route first. I did try a landscape which was surprisingly okay. In my humble opinion.

The poppie triplet below has a funny story. I joked that they have a bubbly personality because I tried to do an acrylic pour with dish soap. I achieved a lumpy something or another. Once the soap congealed into a sticky mess, I was able to add the poppy and leaves to hide some of the sticky gunk. I think I might have added about 5 layers of mod podge varnish to this set. That soap isn’t trickly out any time soon. I have no idea if it will affect the paint in the future, so I’ll probably keep this set for myself just in case.

Flow
I wondered if I could paint a flowing pattern. I like this one but it was too measured for me. I felt like I had to match the top and bottom and it wasn’t organic. So, I don’t think I’ll try this style again for a while. I do like the colors though. At one point I thought it looked like I had torn a piece of paper off to reveal the plants underneath.

Audience?
I don’t think of a target audience when I start a painting. It's only afterwards that I wonder who might enjoy the art that somehow landed on the canvas. The grouping below makes me think of a child’s room. A nursery maybe? Would it fit an eclectic style? I really don’t know but I hope it tells a story.

I’m really enjoying these 3 x 3 inch canvases. They are fun to do and I think with practice I might do more mini landscapes. The abstracts are for days when I don’t want to think too hard. Just grab a bunch of paint colors and see what happens.
Some of the art in this article is available in my Etsy store.
